The first photograph was taken in Ashtead, Surrey and the second in the Horniman Museum, Forest Hill, London, UK.
The Horniman has a really interesting collection of objects (a large collection fo musical instruments, including exotic sound-makers such as femur trumpets) from around the world – brought back to Forest Hill by Frederick Horniman (heir to the biggest tea trading business in the world at the time). I like to think of him as a Victorian gentleman in the Phileas Fogg mould. Anyway, the museum’s great – recently refurbished, with a new improved aquarium and well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
I like the scull, but then again: I have a weakness for sculls.
Ha ha, yes.
Great shots and description!!! And I like the skull too!!
Thanks Santi! The museum has really interesting lighting in that section – very cold. In the same room there is also a texidermied walrus. It’s famous for being completely overstuffed – whoever did it (another Victorian gent) had probably never seen a Walrus, so did not realise they were supposed to have wrinkles.
I like the cactus and the window – is that rain or texture? No disrespect to the skull:)
Ha ha. It’s a texture. This is the window of a downstairs loo. Even though the window is above head-height for most people, i think the texture’s there to make the user feel confident that they are in a private space. Probably more information than you wanted.
A loo. how wonderful.
Very punchy contrast on that first one. Love the subdued colors, too…
Thank you. The aim was to convey a certain chill. Glad you like it.
Quirky… excellent.
Thanks EllaDee!
I’m partial to the shape of the window in the loo… 🙂

Yes, you don’t see many porthole windows nowadays. Maybe I’m just hanging out in the wrong places… 🙂
Several days ago, I talked to a man who made flutes out of bamboo. He told me about the oldest flutes that were made from bones…femur flutes I can imagine, but femur trumpets?! Now that I’ve got to see in person.
How do you insert an embarrased emoticon? Er, maybe it was flute!
