Street Portrait (for and of Sara), 2012
Sara was walking along Wellington Street when I spotted her. So preoccupied was I that I walked past thinking “She would make a great street portrait.” It took me a little while (imagine turning a dreadnought around in a very small harbour), to leg it back after her and ask for a photograph. She was great about it and let me take a couple of shots. What an incredible outfit and a wonderful smile! Thanks, Sara! Hope you like your picture.
She’s hot, but I’m not a big fan of piercings – I prefer tattooed ladies.
I bet she has some tattoos 🙂
I wouldn’t be shocked!
Of course I’ve got some 🙂 I’m addicted to body mod!
I knew it 😉
Love the pop-surrealism badges on your jacket. I like that style.
They are from one of my favourite artists, Mark Ryden. Immaculate technique and amazing colours and themes 😀
Great courageous portrait!
Hey, thanks very much! Sara was a great subject – really cool sense of style.
I think she comes over rather scary 😉
In general i admire your ability to get contact and then move on to the picture. Your ‘objects’ are really there when you shoot them.
Really a sweet green girl
with lovely brown eyes – did you notice that… 😉
Great shot… 🙂
Thanks, Drake!
I loved the way you stopped me hahaha! I was actually coming from a photo shoot a few minutes ago and I just didn’t expect it! Thanks for the picture, I ❤ it!!! ^^
Oh wow, that’s great! I’m really glad you like the shot, Sara! Thanks ever so much for posing. You must have been sick of it by then.
Not at all 😀 I never get sick of it!
I have been browsing your blog and I am IN LOVE with your shoots. And I also liked that mine is in colour! yay!
Fantastic! I’m really glad you like them. Yes, colour’s a tricky one with these impromptu shots (there’s always loads of stuff going on in the background in town) – much easier to use B&W, but your shot had to be in colour!
He does do some really cracking portraits! He puts us to shame, sadly… 🙂
Again, I wouldn’t have dared to ask! Like a broken record, I know, but some of these people must get a little suspicious of your reason for asking. You sure find a lot of stylish people!

It’s entirely possible I’ve turned some psychological corner I shouldn’t have, but I now really enjoy the challenge. There have been some, er, misunderstandings (notably in a coffee bar in Hampstead (what a yawn of a place, sorry Hampstead), when my words came out all wrong), but rather than get embarrassed I just laugh them off. The worrying stuff tends to happen when I don’t ask permission, ha, ha.
Great colours in this shot! Nice portrait yet again, Mr G! 🙂
Thank you, Sir! 🙂
i love this portrait
Thanks, Barbara – that’s great to hear.
Would love the hear her story. Great shot.
Yes, me too. That’s the problem with these fleeting portraits in the street – no one has enough time. Thanks, Terry!
More green hair. A trend? Great portrait.
Yes, it’s really interesting – maybe there is. There was a lot of plum a year or so ago. Thanks very much, Deanne.
Yes, she definitely has an incredible face and outfit, beautiful smile. I love her hair.
Yes, Sara’s ace!
Now that wd look great in mono as well!
I’ll give it a try! Thanks!
The colours are so beautifully toned and you really caught the lovely casual confidence of Sara’s smile!
Thanks so much, Patti! What a nice compliment!
Absolutely wonderful photograph.
Thanks very much, John – a great compliment. Thanks!
Wonderful shot of a beautiful lady.
Thank you very much – yes, indeed!
Like the piercings, a girl after my own heart. Great portrait.
Thanks, Stevie. Yes, she’s great isn’t she?
Great subject, and great portrait. You’ve got the eye, man.
Ha, ha, thanks!
Your portrait of Sara captures the surprise in her beautiful eyes…. a look for the collection!
