Street Portrait (for and of Anthony), 2013
Today was a pretty good day, photographically speaking. And then I spotted Anthony walking down Kingsway. And it got better. What incredible style! He very kindly posed for a couple of shots – this is my favourite. Thanks very much for the picture, Anthony! I hope you like it.

This one is really making me smile. He looks radiant! And oh, I love Anthony’s moustache! Very good, Richard. I definitely like these close ups and I’m looking forward to more.
Yes, Anthony’s moustache is great isn’t it? Thanks very much, Ashley!
Are you using a zoom for these, Richard?
No, it’s a fixed lens – 50mm (portrait lens), which I bought because I could feel myself drifting in this direction and I’d read that if you want to shoot people this is the lens to do it with. Of course, I’m also trying to force it to do my will and take street shots as well, which is a lot more tricky.
Love it
Thanks so much, Alison! Love your blog!
Thank you
Just lovely!
Thanks so much, Emily! He was really nice.
Funny mustache. A 50mm lens is great for portraits.
Yes, I’m enjoying using it – going to post some of my non-portrait environmental shots soon.
One can only wax lyrical about this exquisite shot! Well sniffed out! Stephen
Ha, ha, thanks very much, Stephen! Anthony’s extremely stylish, isn’t he?
That is one intense moustache, if I’ve ever seen one 🙂
Yes, indeed – and great in context. Thanks for the comment. 🙂
yup, no problem 🙂
He is beaming with confidence I think. I love that.
This came together beautifully, Richard. I like the soft background. Your portraits are changing; less about the environment. Telling stories in a different way…
Yes, I think you’re right – Anthony seemed quite relaxed about me taking his picture. Thank you, Karen – it was a lucky moment – the person putting their headlights on up the road really added to the buoyancy of the image. Yes, they’re very different – I feel slightly uncomfortable about them, which is usually a good sign.
Anthony is a classic, I think. And a jolly good fellow too. His waxed mustache is a delightful finishing touch. This is a beautifully toned portrait with really nice, warm bokeh. Be careful with that 50mm. Don’t walk into traffic or back up into a hole getting the shot! I like the closeup portraits very much.
Ha, ha, thanks, George – I have started doing the dance of death now with the curb – it’s going to take some getting used to. Thanks very much for the compliment! Anthony was so nice about the shot – I’m guessing it happens to him a lot.
Oh my, that’s an awesome picture! Anthony, and yes, his mustache too, are quite amazing. 🙂 Great pick!
Thanks so much, MJ! Yes, he’s great isn’t he?
absolutely superb~
Thanks very much, John. I take that as a huge compliment.
He must be a riot at Christmas – love it when people genuinely smile… nice shot!
Yes! Thanks very much! Yes it makes a big difference doesn’t it? A good smile is totally infectious.
I love how his presence mirrors you, the photographer’s, enthusiasm.
…and that mustache! 🙂
Yes, Anthony has a great ‘tache. It did feel like we were both quite into the idea – I love those in the street collaborations. 🙂
Big smile, great portrait:)
Thanks so much, Elena 🙂
Stylin’!
Indeed!
I love Anthony’s moustache so much! Once again, I’m very excited by your photography and the real life characters you meet, Richard!
Yes, me too! I’m really pleased the photography does something – thanks so much, Cheryl!
You’re welcome, Richard!
Fantastic!
Thank you, Sir!
Brilliant..
Thanks, Cath!
Great details, colors, and he has a handsome handle-bar mustache.
Thanks very much – yes, it’s great isn’t it? I really like the writing on your blog by the way.
What a mo, and what a face to go with it Richard.,
Yes, Anthony’s great isn’t he?

Thank you so much, Manoli! That’s a really nice compliment, especially coming from you!
I just found your card in my wallet – you gave it to me when you took this pic of me.
