Street Portrait (for and of Fabio), 2013
Street Portrait (for and of Flavio), 2013
The fourth of February was a ridiculously good day for me photographically, and it started with me meeting Fabio and Flavio on what is effectively a traffic island with a pub on it near Haymarket. They were both unbelievably cool and definitely on their way somewhere. So I was really please when they very generously agreed to a few shots. Thank you both very much! I hope you like your pictures.

Great portraits, Richard!!!
Thank you so much, Santi! Welcome back again!
You’re on a roll, Richard!
Have you read Ballard’s ‘Concrete Island’? It’s one of my favourites of his.
Thanks so much, Ashley! Yes, it’s a great book – I did a post about it back in the days of the Science Fiction fortnight. I really like it because it’s an almost believable scenario (and I like the gothic sense of desperation). It’s ace!
One of his dystopias. He’s very good at that. I expect spending time in an intern camp in China during WWII would set one up for that.
Yes, he’s written more than once that his experience in the camps and in Shanghai immediately before and after internment, informed the imagery he used in his later books (drained swimming pools, abandoned lots etc). He was one of a kind.
Both fantastic shots and great lighting. Love the retro-feel of the first — I really like his “look.” 🙂
Yes, you have to have a certain amount of confidence to pull that off, I think. And Fabio does, of course. Thanks so much, Jennifer.
No dull three-letter names for them – great shots!
🙂 Thanks very much!
Oh yeah, stylin’! One of these days your portraits are going to inspire me to do a makeover…
Yes! They’re both very cool people. That would be great fun…if you ever do, please send a photo! In fact, that gives me an idea…
again, superb Richard
Thanks so much, John. I’m really chuffed that you like them.
Wow. These are GREAT additions to your catalog of portraits. Fab shots. two amazing looks.
Thanks so much, Terry. I couldn’t believe they were walking down the street together.
I was about to ask if they were together…great shots!
Thanks very much, Alex!
Wow, I love the comparison and contrast between this cool, dynamic duo!
Thanks very much, Patti! Yes, they looked very cool walking down the street.
YES. Both portraits rock a retro vibe. I love both portraits, along with their cool names and layered garb. The colors and textures are eye-catching. I can almost feel the sunshine!! T. (I’m still digging your street portraits!!)
Thanks so much, T! I’m really glad you like them. There’s still gas in retro rock, I think. Yes, three days of on-off sunshine – makes me very happy (and there are more people about).
Cool portraits!
Thanks so much!
A good day photographically is always a bonus! Glad it worked out, and these are two great – and hairy – portraits for your collection! 🙂
Yes 🙂 Thanks very much, Richard!
Fabulous portraits both!
Thanks so much, Elena!
Great portraits again. Overcoat, silk scarf, turtleneck … great look with the long hair and the sunglasses. I like a guy who appreciates the role of dress.
Thanks very much, George. Yes, I think both a lot of careful thought and an acting on instinct went into both looks. They seemed very real to me.
DING- DING DING- # 1 please : ) hehe
🙂 Brilliant!
Thank you!!!
¡Me encantan los dos! ¡que buenos!, besos Richard
Thanks very much, Manoli! Yes, they’re both really stylish!
I love these guys! Great shots!
Thanks so much, Melanie!
Again that first photo looks like some from a different time, I love how you find those people.
