The cigarette makes me feel relieved, if they are having a smoke, then they aren’t about to turn around and attack. Interesting image, would be great to see what a poet or writer could make of this.
That sounds horrible, the winter blues. I can understand it though, you winters are so much more extreme than ours. The still shines a lot here in the winter.
I should package some of the light we have and send it over. The light in summer here is too strong for photos, it is too harsh. You are right, it is almost over. Winter is the best time for photos here, and summer is where you are, the light in your summer is beautiful, from what I’ve been told.
Miss Florence Nightingale’s vice, I suppose. The suggestion of a story is well-done. I have been around hospitals a great deal so this reminds me of the nurses who sneak smokes and chew on their grievances. 🙂
Yes, it’s always a funny image that – and it’s always a surprise when you’re in hospital and you encounter it first hand. My grandma was a ward sister at a cancer hospital – she smoked (but always said she did not inhale).
Excellent. Such a great lines and composition, too. If her hand weren’t posed just right there, it wouldn’t have worked quite so well, but, as is, it’s just right!
Thanks so much, Melanie! Yes, there is another shot from a split second before and her hand is slightly raised and it blows the shot. There’s an echo of the stone detailing on the pillar in the way she’s holding her hand – I think that’s what holds the composition together.
… oh yes…we all see you… and love what we see (and don’t).
You have the gods on your side, Richard… they throw such sights in your camera-ready path, and you pick them up effortlessly and give them a soul and eternal life.
That cigarette glow is wonderful.
I also love how the architectural triangles of the column repeat on the collar of the coat and again the rhythm of the tile.
Delicate details making a terrific photograph.
Gorgeous shapes RIchard – it’s almost as if I am moving towards the figure, the lines draw me there – makes me a little dizzy! Really enjoying your abstracts..
Oh, I can…the glow of the cigarette, the black and white-all works so well.
Thanks so much, Elena! I tried writing something to go with it, but couldn’t 🙂
A picture says more etc.
Great shot. I like the angle.
Thanks very much, Cardinal.

Yes, that would be very interesting (especially seeing as I seem to be lost for words at the moment).
Does that mean my comment is too strange, haha
Ha, ha, no, not at all – I’m really struggling to write anything at the moment – think it’s the weather as much as anything – got the blues.
That sounds horrible, the winter blues. I can understand it though, you winters are so much more extreme than ours. The still shines a lot here in the winter.
It’s the lack of light that gets me – this year it seems to have gone of for way too long. Still, hopefully nearly over 🙂

People in super white trainers fascinate me.
Me too – how do they keep them so sparkly clean?
I know, I can’t imagine.
So good you put Sir david Bowie in the tag!
great image
greetings
😉
Ha, yes! Well, it’s my current favourite track on his new LP.
Thanks very much! And for dropping by 🙂
I love this shot, and I would comment — but I have to step outside for a bit….
🙂 Thanks, Alex.

Elegant band engaging, a passive whisper
Runaway, the neat trainers are handy
Wow, thanks so much, Arjun! That’s just made my night.
Another childhood game. Peekaboo… I can’t see you… so you can’t see me 😉
Ha, yes, been playing that a lot lately. 🙂

Wow, thanks so much, MJ! There are definitely times when pictures present themselves and this was one of them. Thanks!
I like this view
I’m really glad you like it, Shimon. It was one of those instances of the image inviting me to take the shot.
Fantastisch! Gut Beobachtet. Interessanter Bildausschnitt. I like it!
Thanks so much! I take that as a big compliment!
Nice shot, Richard! I don’t know, you try to slip away to have a sneaky fag, lol… 🙂
🙂 That would have been me a few years ago (forty a day). Thanks very much, Richard! 🙂
Haha! 🙂
ciao! brilliant …let not this uncertain light be just what defines me (you).

Thank you so much! Brilliant quote.

Merci beaucoup!
There is so much wonderful detail, and mystery, in this great shot Richard!
Thank you so much, Patti! The clothes and trainers fascinate me.
Great observation. Sign of our times.
Thank you so much!
bellissima!
Thanks so much!
Very nice. That cigarette tip is gorgeous. And the shoe doesn’t seem to match the sleeve – I like that.
Thanks very much, Ashley! Yes, the cigarette tip is what drew me to the shot in the first place – the colour seemed just right in the fading daylight.
Perfect POV!
Thanks so much!

Thanks very much, Cath – glad you’re liking them – more to come…
smoke curl turns the corner,
the edge is off –
until the next puff.
🙂
Yes, indeed – used to smoke 40 a day at my nadir – the edge gets blurrier and blurrier…
