Regular visitors will know I have a deep and abiding love for the group, The Fall. Hot Cake is the third track on their 2010 LP, Your Future Our Clutter (or track five if you are listening on CD). As is often the case, I have no idea what the song is about, but it’s a fun blast of noise and poetry. You can listen to a slightly messier version, Hot Cake part 2 here.
A dream image… I would have to say this is the closest thing to perfect I’ve seen, all those repetitive patterns and reflections. Amazing.
Thanks very much, EllaDee. I’m really glad you like this one. It was taken in a pretty unprepossessing part of town where one road becomes another – a sort of interzone.
I wonder where they are going, and who will arrive first;)
🙂 He’s heading towards the Inns of Court – the legal district, at quite a clip, but the buses nowadays are pretty good, so it’s anyone’s guess…
There’s a very retro feel about this image, Richard. I’m not sure if that’s down to her outfit or the general ‘over-exposed’ look. Great shot, and nice thumping bass to Hot Cake! 😀
Yes, they specialise in thumping baselines 🙂 Thanks very much – yes, it’s got a sunbleached look to it – reminds me of the 70s 🙂
Elusive…gauzy and bright. Nice one Richard.
Thanks very much, John. I heart reflections.
Reblogged this on Axolot1.
Thanks very much, Marco. Much appreciated!
Very well captured… 🙂
Thanks very much, Drake! 🙂
It’s a little bit groovy and a whole lot of awesome!
Great things happening in there, nicely spotted.
What a great comment! Thanks very much, Karen. I’d taken a whole load of shots of the interior of the building through the window, because of that glittering mural and I moved just slightly to the right and “ruined” my view with all these wild reflections 🙂 The other shots are pretty pedestrian.
I’m mostly fascinated by the interaction between the sparkling coil and the rest of the photograph.
What a great effect. Was just reading about in-camera effects, and how not a lot of people are utilizing mirrors/reflections as much as they used to. Much easier to composite it in post, I suppose.
Thanks very much, Billimarie. I love a good reflection – they work better for me than in-camera or photoshop effects, because of the element of chance. There is an element of chance in montage, but by combining two (or more) images you are also overlaying moments in time, which has a different meaning (I think) and is a discipline all its own (and one I’ve never mastered). I dig reflections because they are still capturing one moment and all the things that came together in that moment to make the image. Waffle waffle.
I love the confidence in her pose! She appears to be almost naked, albeit with her bag and the mural.
That’s really interesting – because I know she wasn’t naked I hadn’t seen that – it changes the whole thing.
I love this, it looks like the glittering mural is swooping down and wrapping around her.
Thanks very much, Nancy. It’s an interesting mural in a rather sober looking building – yes it really looks like that – thanks.
Trying to work this one out, Richard, where are those curved steps?
The curved steps are in what looks like a corporate office block, as is the mural – luckily for me it also has a highly reflective window. It’s pretty much opposite the church at the point where the Strand peters out and becomes the road to the city.
Oh yes, I know where you mean. I didn’t recognise it, though.
Just like the shot you took a few issues ago of the shop window, this is fantastic. I love the way all the reflections interact. It’s an exciting image.
Thanks very much, Cheryl – there was something about it that reminded me of German painting in the eighties – slick, visually disturbing and a little bit “off”. I’m really glad you like it.
It’s one of my favourites, as it’s very imaginative. You need a good eye to capture it.
