Richard, “Selfie” is the word of the year in The Netherlands.
It’s not a good word – it conjures up horrible images. But thanks, Han! 🙂 Nice to hear from you. How’s Winter treating you?
I don’t like the term either, Richard.
Nor me!
Wet.
It’s rainy most of the time. But my new cam suits fine in my inside pocket.
Yes, same here at the moment. I skulk indoors when it’s like this. Need to get a bigger pocket. What’s your new camera?
Ah, it’s a Fuji X100s. Wonderfull piece of tecnique.
I just googled it – looks great – does it perform well?
Extremely well. The X-trans sensor is sharp as a knife.
The old ‘Leica with 35mm lens’ feeling.
Wow. Maybe in a couple of Xmas’ time…
1200 euro’s..But, at the sunnyside, you can not buy a regiment of lenses for it.
Very well captured… 🙂
Thank you, my friend! 🙂
Ghost Richard! And thanks, Richard, that’s really kind of you. 😀
Ha, yes! You’re welcome – I mean it 🙂
What a wonderful shot Richard, from the doors to the books on the shelves with you both in between, ultra-reflective and such a joy!
Thanks so much, Patti! That’s a lovely compliment – I really like this particular cafe – it’s another place where I’ve taken loads of shots.
Excellent portrait that says a lot about the person (or you), yet retains some mystery.
Thanks very much – great comment.
What’s even more interesting is the way he’s looking at you! Brilliant shot, my friend! Oh, and btw this is a great self-portrait! 🙂
Thanks so much, Marina! That’s lovely to hear. 🙂 Yes, I can imagine him ordering the hit immediately after I took this…
😆
i like that a lot, richard. and i love the title.
Thanks very much, Peter – really glad you like it.
It is looking cold there, I see you are rugged up. Interesting shot and I had to look at the photo to see you. I love images like that, it is the type of thing I would do of myself.
Yes, it’s an insidious kind of cold at the moment – it kind of creeps up on you if you’re out in it too long. I’m really glad you like it, Leanne – one of these days I’ll do a straight self-portrait. But not yet 🙂
Nice shot Richard! Selfie is indeed a stupid word I agree. Someone suggested ‘otofoto’ like autophotograph. I like self image or self shot better:-) Have a great Xmas!!
The star in the picture is the guy looking up. Priceless!
Ps good to know Han uses x100
Thanks very much, Chris! You too! And a happy new year!
Yes, I was very lucky he did that!
It looks like a great camera from the reviews I’ve read.
Cheers Richard
The watchers being watched 🙂
Yes, indeed 🙂
Ha! I see you! And thank you for not calling this ‘selfie’. Ugh.
Ugh indeed! I’m sure usage will die out in ten or twenty years… 😦
😦
Wow! Very enigmatic! Merry Xmas Richard! 🙂
Merry Xmas to you too, Gigi! 🙂 And thanks!
I love the look he is giving you.
Yes, me too – but I’m glad there was a thick pane of glass between us.
LOL
🙂
Great shot Richard, I love the look on the man’s face. I’m also glad to learn I’m not alone in my complete dislike of the term selfie.
Thanks very much, Alex. Yes, it’s a funny word; I disliked it the moment I heard it. I’m sure it doesn’t bother a lot of people.
stunning photograph!
Thanks very much!
The peering face over the sandwich is priceless
Yes, I was really lucky he did that at that precise moment. Thanks, Leon.
I like your “Self-portrait with man”. I read in a comment here that «“Selfie” is the word of the year in The Netherlands.», but I thought the term ‘selfie’ referred to photos where the photographer holds the camera in one hand, directed towards himself?
In my opinion a self-portrait distinguishes itself from a ‘selfie’.
Thanks very much, Cardinal; glad you like it. Aha, yes, is it that specific?
I love this shot. He doesn’t seem to happy to have you photographing him hahaha
Thanks very much, James – really glad you like it. No, not happy at all.
But it made for a great photograph so win win!
Lovely portrait. He doesn’t look too happy to be snapped, but the combination of his look, the reflection and the excellent wallpaper is great, Richard! 🙂
Thanks very much, my friend. Yes, I love the wallpaper. It’s a great looking little cafe, and it always has interesting customers inside. 🙂
Great shot Richard, I like the way it is framed in two parts by the door. The large part, and then the small, seemingly unimportant part – or is it?
I’m taking a break from the internet, Richard, so will take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Thanks again for your support 🙂
Thanks very much, Alison. Yes, I think the small part is important to the rhythm of the picture. Thanks ever so much – Merry Christmas to you and yours too! You’re welcome – I love your work and your cards have been a big hit with the people I’ve given them to. Not wishing to be a copycat, but thanks for your support too 🙂
🙂
What a great moment! I’m curious to see that straight self-portrait, Richard! 🙂
Thanks very much, Anette! I’m thinking about it 🙂
When do we get to see you?
🙂 I will take a shot at it, but I’m thinking about how…
A bit of a dark stare coming from that man, Richard. I love that it appears he is dabbing at his mouth with a napkin. Wiping away those loose crumbs… And you are both before and behind him. There’s no escape. Great!
🙂 Love that idea, Karen. Thanks very much.
ciao! you do make an impression.

🙂
Hi Richard, I hope you had a good Christmas. I love the way the man is aware of being photographed but maintains his own private space at the coffee table.
Hi Cheryl, yes, it was good thanks. Hope you had a good one. Yes, I don’t think he was too happy with me…
Love the eye contact with the other guy;) Great shot!
Thanks very much, Elena! I’m not sure he was so keen 🙂
