Richard, your self portrait blows me away! Subtle and beautiful, and that haunting eye… It’s like a painting and I love it! The trio of images is fantastic.
Thanks so much, Karen! I’m really glad you like it. Apart from the portrait, all the images were taken within 100 yards of each other – so really more of a picture of a corner of a city.
Thanks so much, Emily. I’m really glad you like them. The mystery is interesting, because I can’t divorce the images from the way they were made, which was very deliberate in the case of the self-portrait and what I think of as structural in the case of the others. And even with this, I know what you mean – maybe it comes from the juxtapositions and obfuscations and the fact that all three (for me) suggest human bodies.
Today I explored Philadelphia for a short while. These remind me of the city’s feel. Great idea using close ups to distort our sense of perception and subject.
Oh, Richard! What fabulous work you’ve been doing since I’ve been absent. For some reason I’ve not been receiving any notifications from nearly everyone I subscribe to. I’m gearing up to starting up both of my blogs again and I’d really love to include this self portrait on sots. May I please?
I hope you’re well, my friend.
Hey, Ashley! Thanks very much for the compliment. I was just about to email you. Yes, the notification thing happened to me as well – a WP glitch I think. Of course you may – I’d be honoured! Thanks – finally recovered from a cold/ flu thing that lasted for about three weeks. Hope you’re well too and really nice to hear from you.

Thanks very much, Cheryl. I’m really glad you like it. The texture of the wall is quite odd – it’s a very matte finish for an exterior and the marks are fingermarks.
whoa, what a dedication. leanne will be proud.
Thanks so much! Very nice of you to say.

true art (again). love it!
Thanks so much, Inge! I’m really glad you like it.
Excellent pictures.
Thanks very much, Rabirius.
That is a selfie I like!! Well done, great excitement and tension in them
Ha, ha, thanks very much, Chris!
Thank you Richard, I love them these so much and thank you for the dedication. They are so textural, is that a word. Fantastic.
You’re welcome, Leanne, and thank you!
Dig…
Great, thanks very much.
You’ve outdone yourself Richard. These are all powerful, beautiful, compelling images!
Thank you so much, Elena!
Stunning images, Richard. The self-portrait is just great and very inspiring.
Thank you, Chris – that’s really nice to read. The portrait was very deliberately done – the other two shots were stumbled upon.
Excellent. Subtle, powerful images. Hard to see them simply as photographs, but more as energetic creations.
Thanks so much, EllaDee. I like to think of them as collaborations between myself and the stranger who made the mark.
A beautiful triptych! I like the pairing of Underground Medicine, and the selfie in the middle works really well! Great shots, Richard! 🙂
Thanks very much, Richard! 🙂
Wow, what a powerful series, Richard!
Thanks very much, Anette!
Really quite disturbing. Something of a horror feel. Conjures up many things.
Thanks very much – I’ll take that as a compliment.
Yes, please do! It had a strong effect!
Richard, brilliant work. I love the foggy feeling.
Thank you very much, Laura. Glad you like them.
These remind me of ‘markings.’ Maybe in a cave, maybe on stone. Maybe somebody accessing some ancient space. Really atmospheric and profound.
They are markings, but modern ones – details of graffiti tags. I loved the drama in the sweep and curve of the writer’s letters.
It’s beautiful how you’ve translated and interpreted these shapes. One could meditate on these images and textures. Thanks Richard!
ciao! are the photos of underground medicine a tree trunk ?
thebestdressup
No, they’re close-ups of graffiti tags on a wall opposite The London Film School.
these are delicously dark and mysterious, Richard. Love the textures, and the self-portrait especially.

*deliciously* 🙂
The brilliance continues. Just touching base. Amazing stuff – dare I say – as always. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks so much, Terry – very cheering to hear that. Really great to hear from you. You too!
Reblogged this on rebloggobbler.
Thanks very much, Douglas!
I really loved these recent posts!
Great, I’m really glad you liked them!

Thanks very much, Billimarie. I think you capture a city in its details.

How did you fix it, Richard?

Thank you!
Oh dear, I had already done that!
When i did it i changed to daily reminders. It’s very frustrating isn’t it?
It is. I’ve sent a message to WP support. Fingers crossed.
Fascinating triptych!
Thanks very much, John!
Awesome pic’s the portrait is brilliant and the first image i found myself staring at it for 10mins bloody brilliant
Thanks so much, Leon! That’s a great compliment. Thanks!
Great dedication to Leanne. I like the self-portrait.
Thanks very much, Cardinal. Yes, I’m glad she liked it. And that you like the s/p.
Great images, all very mysterious and intriguing.
Thanks very much, Stevie. I don’t photograph graffiti very often – think I prefer tags to pictures – there’s more honesty to them.
I love the self portrait, it almost looks like a painting.
Thanks very much, Cheryl. I’m really glad you like it. The texture of the wall is quite odd – it’s a very matte finish for an exterior and the marks are fingermarks.
What is left to say? Lucky Leanne!
Self-portrait is super interesting. Reminds me of a painting.
Thanks very much, Jennifer. Yes, the marks are fingermarks in dust on a matte black painted wall outside a theatre.
Gorgeous work!
Thanks so much!
