Street Portrait (for and of Spencer), 2014

– Street Portrait (for and of Spencer), 2014 –

Effortless cool and another face of summer is what I thought when I saw Spencer. He was getting ready to ride off on his motorbike, when I asked if I could take his photograph. Spencer was great about it – this is the first of five shots and my favourite. Thanks very much, Spencer! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Dennis) #1, 2013

Dennis was walking down Neal Street, London, UK, when I spotted him. It was the first cold day this year, and people were moving fast. So I was really lucky Dennis stopped. We had a brief chat, and I took three shots – this was the first. Thanks very much, Dennis! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Adam), 2013

OK, so not strictly speaking a street portrait…I was on the way home and walked past this train carriage where I spotted Adam. I’ve never asked anyone for a portrait on a train before, so I was slightly wary – it being an enclosed space with a captive audience and all. But Adam was great and happy for me to take a few shots. We had a great chat – Adam is a performer of 15yrs standing specialising in character walkabout and alternative freakshow performances as well as being an incredible clothes designer. And his coat in this shot is 40 years old – and fast becoming a patchwork of leather – an historical artefact. Fantastic to have met you, Adam. Thanks very much for letting me take your portrait! Hope you like it.

Street Portrait (for and of Emily), 2013

First day out with the camera for four days, and I was roaming the streets in search of a solution to mine and Richard’s latest collaboration conundrum. Without success as it happens, but I did see Emily. What a fantastic combination of stylistic elements! Another time-traveller, I think. Thanks so much for letting me take your picture, Emily! Hope you like it.

Street Portrait (for and of Harmony), 2013

What I usually get when I ask someone for a portrait is a straight yes or no. This was a lot more fun – Harmony agreed to the shot “but only if you can do it before that light turns green” (pointing to the pedestrian crossing light). I love a challenge. And I love Harmony’s look – full of codes and wonderful textures. I’m also extremely jealous of her quiff – I just got one and it’s very much on the nursery slopes at the moment. Anyway, thanks very much, Harmony! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Fabio), 2013

Street Portrait (for and of Flavio), 2013

The fourth of February was a ridiculously good day for me photographically, and it started with me meeting Fabio and Flavio on what is effectively a traffic island with a pub on it near Haymarket. They were both unbelievably cool and definitely on their way somewhere. So I was really please when they very generously agreed to a few shots. Thank you both very much! I hope you like your pictures.

Street Portrait (for and of Barry), 2013

This was taken on a side street,  just off New Oxford Street. I’d wandered round there because of a doorway that looked interesting, and spotted Barry on a break. He very kindly agreed to me taking a few shots. I took three and this was the one Barry chose, although he thought he looked a bit too grumpy (and I have to say, he wasn’t). Anyway, thanks very much, Barry. Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Jon), 2013

Street Portrait (for and of Jon), 2013

Jon was minding his own business waiting for a theatre (typically, I can’t remember which) to open, when I bounced up and asked if I could take his picture. I love his style – there’s something quite futuristic about it (with very interesting details), while being completely of the moment. Anyway, thanks very much, Jon! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Peter), 2013

Turning the corner from where I took the shots of Pierce, I immediately spotted Peter. He had a very purposeful stride, so I didn’t think he’d stop. So I’m really grateful he did! I’ve always wanted to have long hair and dress like Peter, but I know I’m really too uptight – like down to the marrow. Anyway, thanks very much for stopping, Peter! Hope you like your picture.
