Street Portrait (for and of Christopher Twigg), 2015– Street Portrait (for and of Christopher Twigg), 2015 –

It’s a long time since I last saw Christopher Twigg. He’s a brilliant poet and painter and a lovely person and, by chance, on Monday we were both in Fopp Records – he looking for music by John Cage, me for Sonic Youth. This was my second shot and is my favourite. It was great to catch up, Chris and thanks for letting me take your portrait! Hope you like your picture.

In the 1990s I ran a small press with the artist Roy Marchant – our first book was Chris’ Nature Poetry (1992) co-published with Knife Edge Press. You can read more about it here.

Ashley Lily Scarlett and I have started a new blog together. It’s a conversation in pictures and it’s called Between Scarlett and Guest.

– Street Portrait (for and of Leon Hart), 2014 –

I first met Leon Hart in July 2012, on Great Queen Street. He was good enough to let me take his portrait, which I posted on TFIPM a few days later. As a result, Leon and I started up an email conversation and I discovered he was a painter and artist. I checked out a lot of his work online (at: In March 2013 I got to see the work “in the flesh” at an exhibition called Beauty Never Sleeps at the Brick Lane Gallery – and it was exceptional stuff. Sadly, I missed meeting Leon for a second time then, but did manage to catch up with him a week or so ago. Thanks very much Leon! Hope you like your picture.

Check out Leon’s new site here:

And the original post?…it was science fiction fortnight on TFIPM and I named my portrait of Leon after Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man (1951). You can read it here.
