Street Portrait (for and of Billy), 2013

Billy was on a brief break from working in one of the buildings on Kingsway, when I spotted him. He had a really interesting look of concentration, so I asked him if I could take his photograph. And then he smiled and I got my shot. What a great smile! Thanks very much, Billy! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Adam) #1, 2013

So, this was something of a stake-out.

As I was walking down the street, I spotted Adam out of the corner of my eye, standing behind the counter of Farthings. He was dealing with a customer, an elderly gentleman, so I waited. But their transaction seemed to last forever so, after a few minutes, I lost heart and went away. Just as I was leaving the area, I saw the customer in the street. Hazaar! I bounced into the shop, and to my delight Adam agreed to a few shots. These are my favourites. Thanks very much Adam! Hope you like your pictures.

Street Portrait (for and of Chris), 2013

This was taken today on Kingsway, London, UK. Chris was crossing the road when I spotted him. He looked great, so I asked for a portrait. He very generously agreed and suggested I took a shot from behind…

Street Portrait (for and of Simone), 2013

This was taken today on Neal Street, London, UK. I really loved Simone’s confident and definite look. As a militant spectacles wearer, I was also very impressed with her glasses. Simone was really nice about me taking loads of shots. Thanks very much, Simone! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Adrian), 2013

This was taken last week on the Strand, London. Adrian was on his lunch break, but very generously agreed to a couple of shots. I tried taking full-length portraits, but fluffed the angle and the lighting, so there was much messing about (on one of the coldest days of the year), before I got a shot I was happy with. Thanks very much, Adrian – for the shot and for your patience! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Yaron), 2013

This was taken last week on High Holborn, London. I really dug Yaron’s understated style – another artist, I think. He very kindly let me take a couple of shots – this is my favourite. Thanks very much, Yaron! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Madeleine) #1, 2013

This is Madeleine as I first spotted her on Great Queens Street. The flash of orange amongst all the grey and brown, her hair, her stance! I dithered about whether to ask her for a portrait and in the process nearly missed my chance as she went into a doorway. Yes, I ran. And I’m really pleased she said yes. What great style! Thanks very much, Madeleine! Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Anthony), 2013

Today was a pretty good day, photographically speaking. And then I spotted Anthony walking down Kingsway. And it got better. What incredible style! He very kindly posed for a couple of shots – this is my favourite. Thanks very much for the picture, Anthony! I hope you like it.

Street Portrait (for and of Bruno), 2013

Another cold day, so on the streets there was a lot of brisk walking, steam-breathing and hurriedly made plans. Bruno was crossing the road to Neal Street. I spotted him immediately and caught up with him outside a pub. Bruno was great about me taking his portrait. I took two shots and this is my favourite. Thanks very much for stopping, Bruno! And for the words of encouragement. Hope you like your picture.

Street Portrait (for and of Barry), 2013

This was taken on a side street,  just off New Oxford Street. I’d wandered round there because of a doorway that looked interesting, and spotted Barry on a break. He very kindly agreed to me taking a few shots. I took three and this was the one Barry chose, although he thought he looked a bit too grumpy (and I have to say, he wasn’t). Anyway, thanks very much, Barry. Hope you like your picture.
