Street Portrait (for and of Jonathan), 2012
This shot was taken around the Inns of Court – I’m not sure of the exact location. Jonathan was finishing his lunch when I asked him if I could take his portrait. He very generously agreed – and I took four shots with slightly different settings. This is my favourite. Thanks, Jonathan. I hope you like your picture.
A great shot, Richard… 🙂
Thank you very much, Drake 🙂 He was a really nice man.
Love the way the paper frames the model-also like the Bl & WH.
Thanks Elena! Yes, I went for the B&W because it emphasised Jonathan’s gaze.
Another great one Richard
Thank you so much, Chris.
My pleasure! I enjoy your work!
Fantastic shot!
Thank you very much, Jennifer. I take that as a big compliment.
great shot, I can tell it’s not NYC they cant sell that size soda any longer in the city.
Thanks very much. That’s interesting – do you know why?
yeah it is one of Mayor Bloomberg’s methods of fighting obesity.
That’s very selfish of him – couldn’t he just do a bit more exercise?
This images has the feel of a a fleeting moment in time… maybe it’s the detritus of his lunch…
Yes, it looks like it’s been blown there to me…maybe that’s it.
A powerful gaze. Love the tones.
Yes, indeed. Thanks, Deanne – I’ve been experimenting a bit more – I’m planning on doing a whole lot more over the holidays.
No rest for the wicked eh?:)
🙂 No more posting until 2013! (I will be commenting though)
Wow! That’s a decent time off. Enjoy the holidays !!
Thanks very much, Deanne. Yes, I’m going to read a lot of books and watch some TV online. You too!!
Nice composition, Richard! 🙂
Thank you, Sir! 🙂
I like the expression in his eyes. He is comfortable with you and himself. I like his finger nails. a nice shot as always
Yes, it’s an interesting look isn’t it? I think he has the measure of me, but out of a sense of fun he’s going along with the shot. Thanks very much, Carla.
i really enjoy your portraits. you make me look for a long while at a stranger; until they dont feel like strangers any longer
Thank you very much, Glyn – I’m really pleased you like them – that’s so rewarding to hear.
I love this one, Richard. Wonderful tones. Wonderful everything, really.
Hey, thanks very much, Chris! I’m really glad you like it.
Yes, an intense gaze – Beautifully human.
Yes, I really loved Jonathan’s directness. Thank you very much, Karen.
Solid…reminds me of a still from a Mike Leigh film.
Wow, thanks very much, John. Love Mike Leigh’s work.
Como no va a gustarnos!, fantástica!!, tiene cara de buena persona, besos Richard
¡ Gracias tanto, Manoli! Siempre dices las cosas más bonitas! Fue un gran hombre en fotografía. ¡ Un abrazo!
I’m not at all confident of the translator I just used, so here it is in English: Thank you so much, Manoli! You always say the nicest things! He was a great man to photograph. Hugs!
Great shot Richard, I admire how you can just ask complete strangers if it is okay to take their photo.
Thanks so much, Leanne. That’s really nice of you to say. I love asking people if I can take their photograph – it’s a lot of fun.
I can’t do it, I find it really hard. It is different when I am asked to take photos, I can get a bit bossy then.
That’s so interesting – I’m hopeless if someone asks me to take their photograph 🙂 I think I’m getting bossier though (in a very small way) – in that I will ask people to move to a suitable background etc 🙂
That is one cool gaze from Jonathan! A very relaxed lunch shot Richard!
Yes, indeed! Thanks, Patti!
He looks very confident – almost defiant – nice
Thanks very much – he was nice.
Another story waiting to be written!
Yes, indeed.
Great portrait. The setting of the steps and door frame works very well.
Thanks very much, Stevie. I’m pleased with the trash blowing around. And Jonathan’s gaze is the most direct of anyone I’ve shot in the last six months. Thanks.
What incredibly intense eyes. A wonderful portrait.
Thanks so much, Melanie. Yes, Jonathan’s gaze is the most frank and direct of anyone I’ve shot, I think. I really liked him.
