Street Portrait (for and of David Charkham), 2013
David exudes so much style that I zeroed in on him from quite a distance. But the devil is, of course, in the detail. I was thrilled when David agreed to a portrait – this is my favourite of several shots. Thanks very much, David! Hope you like your picture.

Dapper is the word that comes to my mind
Yes, great description. Thanks, John.
He seems so elegant… Wonderful photograph. Thanks and Love, nia
Yes, indeed! Thanks very much, Nia!
Another great portrait, Richard!!! In addition to the character (he’s fantastic), I like very much the symmetry of the image. You can draw a line and obtain a mirror image (except for some minor details). 🙂
Thank you so much, Santi! Yes, David manages to express so much with his smile, I think. Oh, yes.
It’s really good, Richard. I like the little bit of his strap and the button being included. He looks fantastic and I love his beard and his expression.
Thanks very much, Ashley. He does indeed look fantastic. I’m quite jealous of David’s beard – I just shaved mine off.
Great job. The omission of reflections in his glasses was well done – and not knowing the guy, I feel as if your portrait does him justice – it shows his humanity.
Thank you very much, Stephen. Yes, I love David’s expression – very warm and open. He was very nice.
Dapper came to mind immediately but since its already been used I would have to say quite jaunty! Nice one!
Thanks very much, Kathryn!
Another very neat, bearded, wonderfully attired man? Not just. The name (but not the face!) rang a distant bell… and Google filled in the details.
Ha, yes! Thanks, EllaDee.
Splendid portrait. Love the little button on the right.
Thank you, Deanne. Yes, David’s look was full of great little details. If it wasn’t for the laziness I’d probably switch lenses sometimes and take full body shots as well as close-ups, but it’s a serious case I’m afraid.
It is amazing the people that inhabit your world.
Thanks, Dohn – I’m becoming more attuned to the people I want to shoot, so there are more hits than misses nowadays and I’m prepared to run a lot more to get the shot – sometimes think I’m trying to create my own version of London from the people I like the look of. David’s great isn’t he?
Great shot, wonderful captured… 🙂
A typical englishman..? ‘big smile’
Thanks very much, Drake! 🙂 If only we were all so stylish!
I agree with Stephen about the humanity showing. This man seems so likeable! A beautiful shot. I think I will go google as well.
Thanks very much, Philippa. David was very likeable. I’m really glad I ran into him.
The look on his face is “Just wait till I meet your gf”
🙂 That is too funny.
Oh, I like David. Great smile! And a great capture of that smile!
Thanks so much, Alex!
I so look forward to your portrait posts. Never disappointed. Another great one.
That’s great to hear – thanks very much, Elena!
A nicely framed portrait that is very welcoming for some reason! Well shot, Richard! 🙂
thanks very much, Richard 🙂
Very nice.
Thank you, Cardinal!
Oh yes! Another time traveler, or…. perhaps it is you that is time traveling…I guess you would notice, unless it happens too quickly…
Brilliant.
I wish! I’d be all over the place. Thanks very much, Karen!
Beautiful portrait with wonderful soft tones and colouring centering the eyes and smile so well!
Thanks very much, Patti! I’m definitely into exploring subtlety at the mo.
Oh, this is a joy – love how his little white beard shimmers out in the blacks – and such kindness coming from him..love it..well done.
Thanks so much, Cath! I’m really glad you like it. Great.
¡Maravilloso retrato! que elegante!!
Thank you very much, Manoli!
Missed this one! This is fabulous!
Thanks so much, Jennifer!
