Street Portrait (for and of Richard Bass) #1, 2013
Street Portrait (for and of Richard Bass) #2, 2013
So, having indulged in a little time travel with Claire I’m going to take us back…to an earlier time…the Wednesday before. This is Richard Bass. He was walking down a pretty much deserted street. To say he stood out would be an understatement – I ran over to him and he was great about me taking so many shots. Again, Richard seems to inhabit his clothes, so although they are obviously period perfect, they are also very much part of who he is. What an absolute gent! Thanks very much, Richard! Hope you like your pictures.

If you want to see all the street portraits to date in one place, go here: http://tfipmremix.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/london-faces-remix/ – it’s not very up-to-date I’m afraid.
Well, another “retro” portrait!!! It’s like returning to the 50s!!! Great portrait, Richard!!!
Thanks very much, Santi! Yes, it’s one of the things I love about London – all periods exist at the same time.
Wow, what fantastic style! Wonderful portraits.
Yes, indeed – Richard’s got it! Thanks very much, Lena!
So many things to love about that first shot! It is just wonderful! I like the close-up too.
That’s so nice to hear! Thanks very much, Jennifer. I think even Richard’s face fits the period. And the angle of his hat is just perfect.
beautiful in black and white!
Thanks very much, Olive! It’s a great look isn’t it?
He was born to wear that beautiful suit. What a wonderful shot!
Yes, indeed – a natural. Thanks very much!
My first thought was Babyface Nelson – the infamous 1930’s bank robber. Class and classy look. Great photo.
Blimey your bang on he really does look like him http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/00/Baby_face_nelson.png/150px-Baby_face_nelson.png
Great shot by the way Richard
Thanks very much, Leon. Brilliant! Thanks for the link.
Thanks very much, Terry. Yes, a classy look indeed and spot on. Think Richard has the pose down too.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Wow! Great shots, Richard. Boy, does he look cool.
Thanks so much, Ashley. He does indeed. Love his pose.
I thought the same thing that Mobius thought when I saw the portrait. Great find again!
Yes, it’s pretty spot-on isn’t it? Thanks very much, George!
fabulous.
Thanks very much. That’s a very nice compliment.
Beautiful images, and I know what you mean about his inhabiting his clothes. Something slightly unnerving, though – he’s the spitting image of my grandfather at that age… 🙂
Wow, that’s strange. I’d love to see a pic of your grandfather. Thanks very much, Richard! 🙂
Haha… Maybe I’ll show you sometime. 🙂
Okay, first Claire, now Richard. The next time you’re out see if you can find the portal they stepped through. Yeah, I know reality. But ya never know.
Ha, ha! I’m on the lookout…
Wonderful shot!
Thanks very much, Carissa!
Very dapper. The only thing missing is a violin case. Great shots and the black and white does give these a vintage feel.
Yes, indeed. Thanks very much, Stevie. Yes, in colour the modern references are more obvious.
The first image made me think he was bootlegging in a 1920’s Chicago, the close-up confirmed it! Love that steely look, and the way he wears that hat.
Great portraits, Richard!
Thanks very much, Alex! Yes, I think Richard’s got the pose down. And he has the perfect face for pulling off a look like this. Yes, the angle of his hat is perfect.
Your last two portraits have me feeling very disorientated Richard! Fantastic style!
Ha, ha! Yes, indeed! Thanks very much, Patti!
Very dapper!
Oh, yes!
He looks like he hangs around with Eliot Ness and the gang, or maybe he is an opponent of his and Ness is on the lookout for him, definitely gangster material.
Yes, it’s definitely that period – thanks for such a fun observation, Leanne – I reckon he’s more of a Ness man myself.
Hey, what a classy and wonderful attitude! Such fun and such grace! Fantastic, Richards! 🙂
Yes, Richard’s great isn’t he? Thanks very much, GG! 🙂
These are great portraits!
Thanks very much, Anette! Love your work. Do you have a follow by email button on your blog? I couldn’t find it.
Now you can find the button in the bottom part of the widgets. Thanks for following, Richard! I’m happy to hear you like my work.
Great, thanks very much. You’re most welcome – love your work.
Looks like a character from an old Chicago gangster movie. Excellent!
Yes, indeed! Thanks very much, Cardinal!
He looks amazing, I love it when you see a person doing their own thing, and not following the pack.
Yes, indeed. Me too. Richard was wonderfully confident and comfortable – I think that’s why he wears the clothes so well.
Yep
His one hand behind the back pose is intriguing. Godard said “All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun” and with him you got a sure winner.
Ha, yes, indeed. JLG proved it a couple of times too – what a great period for French films that was. I’m a big fan of his work. Have you seen Weekend?
No, I haven’t. I just read the synopsis after you mentioned.
Oops…I will asap
I’d love to know what you think.
Sure Richard. Thanks for recommending.
Ahh, that is so great! Even the cobblestone streets are perfectly located. Both beautifully composed photographs, Richard. I admire your portrait series immensely.
Thanks very much, Karen – I’m really glad you like them. I wonder how deliberately Richard chose the street – they’re not all cobbled around there.
Fantastic! He looks verrrry familiar. 🙂
Yes, it’s odd that isn’t it? He looks like a film star, I think. Thanks very much, Melanie!
Is he hiding anything in his left hand ? just curious 😉 nice shot .
great pictures, Richard – I like the way you go about with street photography and interact with the people you meet
Thanks very much, Katrien. I’m really glad you like what I’m doing. I love interacting with people in the street – it’s a real pleasure to meet most of them.
Better to have run over to him than to have run over him.
