– Allotment Portrait (for and of Nikki), 2014 –
Sunday and the sun was shining. This was taken in a hide at the Dorset Road Allotments, Beckenham. I spotted Nikki at Madame Tussaud’s, Baker Street, London, UK in 1994 – we were both working there as exhibition guides. I asked her if she would like to go out for lunch, and she said yes! Anyway, thanks very much for letting me take your portrait, Nikki! Hope you like your picture.

This is a great portrait.
Thank you so much, Shimon – that’s very nice to hear.
Wonderful, happy expression… aah Nikki… it took me a second to connect the name and compute 🙂
🙂 Thanks very much, EllaDee!
So relaxed – great captured portrait… 🙂
Thank you, my friend 🙂
I’m sure she’ll love your photo, Richard!!! 🙂
🙂 I think she quite likes it.
Lovely and wonderfully natural portrait, Richard.
Thanks very much, Anette.
A very relaxed and warm portrait.
Thanks very much, Stevie. It’s interesting taking a shot of someone I know really well. It’s like a different process in a way – looking for something else.
Laughs can be infectious (not in the germy sense) and I think smiles can be too! And what do you hide from in an allotment? Or do you wait and watch for eccentric gardeners? Or photographers?
Hiding from eccentric photographers is probably very wise :). I think the hide’s so you can observe the visiting birds (on a quiet day, obviously – there were loads of us tramping about last Sunday so no chance of seeing much, although there were newts and dragonflies in the pond).
Sounds like a lovely idea in London!
wonderful shot, she’s a marvelous face
Thanks very much, John. I agree and much appreciated!
What a great smile, a lovely summer portrait Richard!
Yes, indeed! Thanks so much, Patti!
Nice to finally see a portrait of Nikki, great photo
Are you now going to start an Allotment Portrait series? I think you could find some interesting characters
Thanks very much, Leon.
It’s an interesting idea – I’ve got one more shot at the moment, but there are loads of allotments around here…
This is a lovely shot
Thanks so much!
I’m guessing Nikki is well known to you! Such a lovely, relaxed shot.
Yes, we’re married. Thanks very much, Emily!
🙂
A smile that lights the way!
Yes, indeed, thanks, Kathryn!
A warm and welcoming face which probably belongs to a good soul. I like the pastel green and blue bordering her smile. I also agree- Strata of Self is a very fine blog. Thanks!
Thanks very much, Elena! Yes, it does!
I think she likes you … 🙂 Gorgeous!
🙂 Thanks very much, Gigi!
Gorgeous smile! Love the framing!
Yes, indeed! Thanks very much, Jennifer!
love the down view – and this woman’s joy was captured so well – great shot my friend.
Thanks so much, Yvette – I’m really glad you like it.
It’s a nice and different type of portrait from you. I really like the natural framing.
Thanks very much, Cardinal – yes, it was pretty spontaneous – more so than the street shots.
This is a fantastic capture Richard, in more ways than one! 😉
🙂 Thanks very much, Alex!
Such a beautiful, beautiful portrait Richard. Although, I think it would be hard not to take a decent portrait of such a beautiful woman. Nikki looks so happy. Hope there are years of lunches to follow.
Thanks so much, Alison. What a lovely comment. Yes, it was a fun day (come back sunshine!). Yes, me too.
Ahh… A great portrait, very natural! 😀
Thanks very much, Richard!
This has a very delicate tone to it, which adds to Nikki’s expression. I love this “peep into someone’s life” perspective.
Ah, yes, I’m going to try and take more shots like this – it’s interesting trying to capture someone I know really well.
Such a natural shot. She looks delightful. I love her smile and the smiling eyes. I would have enjoyed lunch with her too! I like this! 🙂
She is delightful. The lunch went well and five years later we were married 🙂 Thanks very much, George!
I knew there was something special about that girl. She’s “alive”. Not many people are, you know. You got lucky, Richard. And, I’m not often wrong about such things. 🙂
I know 🙂 Thanks very much, George!
Natural, warm, and very lovely 🙂
Thanks so much, Cath! 🙂 And, yes, she is.
You must do this often. Take colleagues out for lunch. I find this picture quite cute and I’m not sure but it shows a different side of yours too!
Yes, I’d agree it shows a different side of me. I have lunch with NIkki as often as possible – we’re married. We, like 80% of the population, met at work, ha ha (in horrible nylon uniforms).
She’s something else. God bless her and we should never meet anyone in nylon stuff. .I totally agree…..
