Street Portrait (for and of Dennis) #1, 2013
Dennis was walking down Neal Street, London, UK, when I spotted him. It was the first cold day this year, and people were moving fast. So I was really lucky Dennis stopped. We had a brief chat, and I took three shots – this was the first. Thanks very much, Dennis! Hope you like your picture.

Great portrait, Richard!!! I like very much his face. A look carefully casual, and with some interesting age lines underlined by the hair tones. And an interesting way of looking too.
Thanks very much, Juan! Yes, I think Dennis has real style. And a great face.

Great image, he’s got a great expression on his face.
Thanks very much, Mark. Much appreciated.
I was quite mesmerized, Dennis, in this shot at least, bears more than a passing resemblance to Billy Bob Thornton.
You’ve caught well Dennis effortlessly stylish look, and the classic B&W complements it.
Yes, it’s interesting you should say that – to me he had the mien of an artist (don’t know which medium). Thanks very much, EllaDee – much appreciated.
He looked skeptical : ) Carefully casual as Santi said!
Yes, that might be it 🙂 Thanks very much, Kathryn.

A phenominal background composition. It seems to hold him in the space momentarily – he looks a bit trapped, or reluctant – which makes this a very interesting portrait.
Yes, I’ve somehow embroiled Dennis in a narrative that doesn’t belong to him. Thanks very much, Karen.
Nice portrait – not quite as relaxed as some of the others. The weather was definitely on his mind! 😀
Thanks very much, Richard 🙂
Love the urgency you’ve frozen here Richard!
Thanks very much, Elena!
Really like his expression, so ambiguous and complicated!
Yes, I think Dennis didn’t know quite what to make of me at this point. I like the tension. It got lost in subsequent shots.
Love this shot, Richard. Dennis looks very thoughtful.
Yes, I think he’s trying to work out what I’m about. I’m really glad you like it. It’s difficult to judge shots when you’ve just taken them.
I dare say, there’s a lot in common but he seems more wiser than me.
And me.
Another great character shot!
Thanks very much, Cheryl!
You’re welcome Richard!
I like the ‘curls’ in his scarf and his face.
Yes, me too. Thanks very much, Carla.
Those arched eyebrows say so much and I love the sense of movement captured in this shot!
Yes, Dennis has a really interesting expression – I think he was a little unsure of me. Thanks very much, Patti!
