This is the ninth collaboration between Richard from CK Ponderings and I and for this one the theme was Aftermath. There were no other restrictions…
Richard Cooper-Knight:
Aftermath
It was Richard’s turn to set the theme this time around, and I really struggled with it! I had a handful of ideas, but couldn’t really get any of them to work. As it happens, it was an unplanned image that came through in the end.
Taken outside a local church, my eye was initially caught by the discarded lid of a box of confetti. I took a couple shots – both of which had blown beyond repair when I came to process them – and then the confetti itself caught my eye. I could say that it was the sadness of the passed moment that drew me, but, in fact, if was the colour of the pieces of paper against the grey tarmac and green weeds.
It’s interesting to think that, while the happy couple has gone on to their new life, and their families and friends have gone on to the reception, these shreds of paper are what is left behind.
Richard Guest:
Aftermath, 2012
This time around, I struggled most with setting the brief. The word aftermath kept popping into my head, so in the end I went with that. I knew I wanted to deal with the aftermath of a small event, and desperately needed a haircut. So I combined want and need and headed off to the barbers. I’d spotted a sign for a new place locally, so I thought I’d give them a spin and try to explain the project at the same time. They were really very nice about it and allowed me to take quite a few shots. I’m quite pleased with this one (and with the cut too!)
Reblogged this on aashumakwana.
A nice pairing of images again! Totally independently we’ve picked two ‘significant’ events and, I think, come up with great shots! 🙂
Yes, it’s really strange how well they fit together! Ha, ha, yes! 🙂 Are you up for another, Richard?
And miss out on number ten?! Definitely up for another one… Although I think that means it’s my shout?! I’ll come back to you! 🙂
🙂 Excellent!
What ties these together nicely for me is the absent human element and the two ‘psychological moments’ we imagine. I smiled at the two ‘significant’ events – there would be barbers who would be delighted with the promotion and bridal parties a bit miffed! both interesting compositions – congratulations!
Thanks very much, Philippa! Yes, it’s really funny that we independently chose small moments to commemorate. Typically, I hadn’t thought of the psychological moments – that’s a really interesting point. That’s what I love about blogging – you get to read so many points of view – it’s a real education.
Hi Richard, yes, the conversations are the big enjoyment for me. My blogs wax and wane terribly according to how other things are going around/with me (!) so the connections with people really matter the most. And the snippets are interesting!
WEED!
Yes!
What fun and what interesting results! I have to look at my barber’s chair again, but I’m sure the base is not shiny like yours since he is an old barber, and his chair looks even older! I like your perspective.
Thanks very much, George! Ah, yes, they are fairly new to the area – the interior is bright and everything shines. I miss my old barber, though – he had a unique sense of humour and approached haircutting like an artist.
Fascinated me, Thank you dear Richard, have a nice week, love, nia
Thanks, Nia!
I like that both of you ended up with the same vibe – detritus or debris. Tiny elements that can both imply a larger event. (hair cutting over here is always potentially huge!) Nice.
Ha, ha, thanks, Deanne (same here, but only because I always leave it too long)! Yes, that’s great – I think the implication is the subject.
Nice. Both have little stories behind them, which I like.
Thanks, Stevie. Yes, I like it when there’s something else behind the image too. I’d love to pack a story into every shot.
Now it’s time for those feet! 🙂
Are you psychic? 🙂
It must be really interesting doing the collaborations, how do you work them out? Do you go out together?
Yes, I find it really interesting, seeing what we come up with. Without wanting to give too much away, one of us comes up with a title, we set a date for posting and go out and take our photographs. Richard and I have never met, but I’m sure doing a shoot together would be great fun.
